The Significant Goal of the Public Works Department is “To plan, construct and maintain a safe and cost effective core Road Network and public buildings infrastructure in Karnataka". Two categories of Roads are Improved and maintained by P.W.D. They are State Highways and Major District Roads under various H/A. Construction of all the Government Buildings pertaining to district Administration,Inspection Bungalows, Junior colleges, First Grade colleges are taken up by P.W.D under various H/A. Formation and Improvements of Village Roads are being taken up under NABARD Grants only. The works of other Departments such as Buildings and Roads culverts are also taken up on Deposit Contribution basis if requested by the concerned Departments.
